Is Bowen Therapy safe?
Yes. Bowen Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive form of bodywork that is considered very safe.
Unlike massage or chiropractic treatments that use force to manipulate muscles or joints, Bowen Therapy uses light, rolling movements to stimulate the body’s own healing response. This encourages the body to relax, realign, and restore balance naturally.
Because of its gentle nature, Bowen Therapy is suitable for all ages – from newborns to the elderly, including pregnant women and animals.
What happens during a Bowen Therapy session?
A typical Bowen Therapy session lasts about 60 minutes for people and 30 to 45 minutes for animals.
The treatment involves a series of gentle, rolling hand movements over specific areas of the body, targeting fascia, muscles, nerves, tendons, ligaments, and joints. These moves are performed with deliberate pauses in between to allow the body time to process and respond to the work.
For animals, sessions are conducted in calm, familiar environments—such as stables or paddocks for horses, and in your home for dogs and cats—to ensure they feel safe and relaxed throughout the treatment.
What should I wear to a session?
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing such as track or soft pants, and a t-shirt. Avoid jeans or clothes with thick seams or restrictive garments.
How long is a session?
First Session (People)
Your initial consultation takes up to 90 minutes and includes a full health assessment followed by your first Bowen Therapy treatment.
Follow-Up Sessions (People)
Subsequent sessions typically last around 60 minutes, depending on your needs and the treatment procedures used.
Baby Sessions (Ages 0–3)
Baby Bowen sessions are gentle and short, lasting up to 30 minutes.
Animal Sessions
Initial sessions for animals take 30 to 45 minutes. Follow-up treatments usually take around 30 minutes and are tailored to suit the animal’s condition and temperament.
How many sessions will I need?
Each individual is different. Some clients notice significant improvement after just one session, while others may require three to five treatments for lasting results.
Chronic or long-standing conditions may take longer to resolve and benefit from ongoing support.
For animals, noticeable changes often occur within one to three sessions, depending on the nature and severity of the issue.
