The Gentle Power of Bowen Therapy for dogs
As dogs grow older, their needs change. They may slow down, stiffen up, tire more quickly or show signs of discomfort after everyday activities—like getting up from their bed, hopping into the car or climbing the stairs.
Just like us, senior dogs can develop aches, pains and mobility issues that affect their happiness and quality of life. Bowen Therapy offers a gentle, non-invasive way to improve comfort, restore ease of movement and support your ageing dog’s overall wellbeing.
Common Issues in Senior Dogs
As your dog enters their senior years, you might notice:
- Stiffness when getting up or lying down
- Difficulty walking, jumping or climbing stairs
- Limping or favouring one side
- Muscle weakness or loss of muscle tone
- Changes in behaviour due to pain or discomfort
- Trouble sleeping or increased restlessness and anxiety
How Bowen Therapy Helps
Bowen Therapy uses light, targeted moves over the body’s soft tissues to help relax tight muscles, relieve tension and support the nervous system. This calm, gentle approach is safe for dogs of all ages—especially seniors who may be sensitive to touch or dealing with chronic pain.
Potential benefits for older dogs include:
- Relief from stiffness and arthritis pain
- Improved mobility and coordination
- Support for ageing joints and muscles
- Reduced anxiety and restlessness
- Better sleep and relaxation
- Enhanced overall quality of life
What to Expect from a Session
Sessions are calm, quiet and tailored to your dog’s comfort. They can take place in a familiar environment—your home or backyard—or at our peaceful clinic in Mount Rankin.
Many dogs become deeply relaxed during treatment and owners often notice subtle but meaningful changes within days, including easier movement, brighter moods and a renewed interest in daily activities.
